Television

A lot of television series are starting back up again. A new one, on Showtime, that I really love is United States of Tara. Toni Collette plays a mom who has multiple personalities, one of them is even a guy named Buck. I watched the pilot and the first episode, and thought it was really well written, funny, and the actors in it all seem to have great chemistry with each other. My favorite of Tara’s personalities is definitely “T” the rebellious teenager. Secret Diary of a Callgirl also started back up, it’s on Tom’s DVR but we have yet to watch it yet! Maybe this weekend.

Another one of my other favorite shows, Burn Notice, is also starting up again soon. That is seriously an underrated show. I was so happy when I saw a commercial for it on one of the big networks (ABC or NBC) because it really deserves more recognition. Let’s see, what else do I like. How I Met Your Mother (on CBS) is also really funny. I just started watching it this season though, I really need to get the other one(s) on DVD. I also watch Ugly Betty, Kath and Kim, The Office, My Name is Earl, 30 Rock, Life, Life on Mars, House, Heroes, Samantha Who, Pushing Daises, Dexter, Weeds, Saturday Night Live, Gossip Girl, and Wreckreation Nation. Absolutely crazy, I know. In my defense, I DVR all of those (well, Tom does) and we usually spend Sunday or another night during the week catching up on all of them. I also watch a few of them on my own (Ugly Betty, Gossip Girl and Samantha Who). So, if you want to know anything about those shows, I’m your person to ask!

In other, non related news, mine and Tom’s anniversary is tomorrow! We’ve been together for four years. I really hope I get that engagement ring soon.

EcoTech & Other Random Things

I was watching the Science channel at Tom’s last night and they had this really cool show on called EcoTech. The one segment was talking about these really cool strucutures called Earthships.  It’s really cool how they make the foundation or outer structure out of tires.  What isn’t cool is the $450,000 price tag on one of them.  But yeah, I’d love to live in one if I had the money to, not to mention they look so cool inside.

Ohio is amazing, seriously.  One minute there’s 2 feet of snow on the ground, the next it’s 45° and raining.  Tomorrow there’s supposed to be snow, after it gets done raining of course.  I was thinking about that earlier, I wonder if I would miss not having a winter with snow if I would move to a state that was pretty warm all year round.  When I was younger I absolutely hated the snow, but the older I get the more I love it.  It’s so hard for me to picture growing up without ever seeing snow!

The Dark Knight came out today and Tom went and bought it in BluRay, and it looks amazing.  We only watched the first half hour or so of it before he put in Wall-E for me since I’ve yet to see it since it’s been out on DVD (we went to see it in theaters).  For some reason I want to see Four Christmases, I know it’s a holiday movie and they are hardly ever good (except for those select few like Home Alone) but it actually looks half way decent.

Oh and my organic chemistry class?  I passed it…but barely.  I’ll probably retake it at some point just to bring my GPA up so I don’t have that…wonderful grade on my transcript.  I managed to get an okay grade (by my standards) in Mollecular and Cellular Biology and a B in my Enviromental Philosophy class.  I really hope to get an A in the grant writing class I’m taking now.  I actually really enjoy it, other than the Native American class I took this grant writing is probably my favorite.

Weekend

I had the best weekend since Tom managed to get both Saturday and Sunday off.  Usually he gets two days off during the week when I have classes and can’t stay over his house.  So on the weekends, we have to get up early for him to get to work.  We spent both Saturday and Sunday morning laying in bed watching the first season of Rome.  We watched a few episodes when it first aired, but kind of forget about.  Thanks to Netflix though, we got the first season and got to watch it in its entirety.  That show is really good.  Now all we need to do is get the second season and watch it.  I wish I knew a bit more about Roman history to see how much of the show is accurate and how much is exaggerated.

Saturday evening we drove up to Cleveland (about an hour away) to see Beowulf in 3D.  I’m really glad we did that instead of just seeing the normal version of it, because it was amazing in 3D.  It’s cool because it’s all animated, but the people actually look like themselves to a degree.  Especially Angelina Jolie’s character (Grendal’s mom).  Tom thought there would be a lot more action and fight scenes then there were, but I didn’t get that feeling when I was watching it.

Tonight we went to Target to browse around and when we were looking at video games there was this woman and a salesperson talking.  The woman looked a little bit upset, and the guy was telling her that they didn’t have anymore Brain Age games after he checked his handheld scanner thing.  Even though just 2 minutes earlier we saw them in a different part of the store.  So we told the lady we just saw them and showed her where they were.  She was super nice and seemed really thankful that we found it.  Then there was another woman looking for the new Pirates movie in Blu-Ray format and they told her they didn’t think they released it in that.  Low and behold as we were walking around, we found it in Blu-Ray.  The woman was already gone or we would’ve helped her too.

The lady that we helped with the video game came up to us when we were checking out and asked us our names.  She said that she told the manager we were helping her and how nice we were.  She said god bless us and happy holidays before walking away.  Little things like that in life, seeing how happy she was over something so simple, restore a little bit of my lost faith in our human race.
